Trauma is an emotional reaction that comes about when we are undergoing an acutely stressful event. Given the perfect recovery environment at the time, our bodies and minds can readjust.
However, if we attempt to return too quickly to the modern pace of life today, the trauma response may become stuck or remind us of earlier life events that we may have forgotten.
Sometimes, the therapeutic response needs to be enhanced with the use of trauma-focused techniques. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and reprocessing, usually known as EMDR and Brainspotting.
Both can produce clearing responses, but they require time to set up and allow processing to take place.
